For TV show lovers, 2013 has been a great year. There have been plenty of great shows; most of them are smartly written, well cast and the production is also great. Hard to choose as it is, we have come up with 4 that we think took the top spots.
The first in is The Walking Dead. If you love anything to do with zombies, this show has a great story line. The world is completely destroyed by a huge epidemic. Everybody is dead but for a handful of survivors. There is no law, no government, no grocery stores – nothing of any value is left, but the survivors have to make do with what they can find. That’s not enough; the dead begin to rise and they feed on anything that is alive. Rick Grimes, a small time cop who has no real experience fighting finds himself faced with these challenges while looking for his wife and his son after they got separated as the world more or less ended.
The second spot goes to Game of Thrones. It is based on a mythical continent that is occupied by 7 noble families. Their rulers are all fighting to get the ultimate throne – whoever gets it gets to rule the rest of the families. The show is packed with political and sexual intrigue; just who will do what to achieve what they want is impossible to tell from episode to episode but you are guaranteed that you will not be disappointed.
Show number three is obviously Breaking Bad. How does a small town chemistry teacher turn into a meth cook overnight? He breaks bad. Walter White’s life could not have been more ordinary until a fainting episode at his second job washing cars reveals that he has cancer. Almost in the same beat, he discovers that one of his former students, Jesse Pinkman, cooks meth. He can definitely do a better job of cooking meth than Jesse, and he makes him an offer. He will cook and Jesse will sell. It is hard to tell what he is more afraid of – his wife finding out or police catching up with him.
The last of the top four is Rectify. It is about a man who has been wrongly imprisoned for nearly 2 decades. New DNA evidence emerges indicating that he is not guilty. He has to go home to a small town that doesn’t think he should be out – they still believe he committed the crime.
We would also like to give an honorable mention for Pretty Little Liars starring Lucy Hale, Ashley Benson, Shay Mitchell and Troian Bellisario and Mad Men starring Christina Hendricks, Jon Hamm, January Jones, Elisabeth Moss…
